Jack Sowers is from a rural section of Columbus, Ohio. At 17, he started playing a bass borrowed from his older brother, Bill, after seeing a film of John Entwistle of the Who on a device called the television. While attending OU in the mid-'80s, Jack played bass in such bands as The Name and The Rhythm Method. Jack also spent a four-year stint as the bassist/backing vocalist for The Crunch, co-producing and playing on their last CD, CORNER.
